Where am I – Nine unforgettable nights travelling from north to south Vietnam, with Wide Eyed Tours on a luxury educational.

From beginning to end we were absolutely spoilt with beautiful hotels, amazing food and the warmest hospitality.

Hoi An Waterfront

Our journey began in Hanoi where I stayed at the stunning Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi for 2 nights. I instantly fell in love with the hotel’s elegant art deco style, luxurious rooms, and perfect location right in the heart of the city near the historic old quarter. Hanoi itself was vibrant, chaotic, and full of charm.

One of the highlights was a Half-Day Jeep Tour through the city where we explored hidden corners, busy streets and of course the famous Hanoi Train Street. The food scene was incredible, and I quickly became obsessed with Vietnamese coconut coffees. Still, I can’t find anything like it in Melbourne!!

From Hanoi we travelled to the breathtaking Ha Long Bay and spent one magical night aboard the luxurious Capella Cruise. Cruising through the towering limestone karsts was peaceful, relaxing, and honestly one of those places that completely lives up to the hype.

Next stop on the itinerary was Hue where I stayed for two nights at Silk Path Grand Hue Hotel. Another gorgeous hotel with amazing service and a great base to experience central Vietnam, close to the banks of the Perfume River. Here I spent a full day exploring the culture of this interesting city and its rich Vietnamese history. I visited the famous UNESCO World Heritage-listed Imperial City and numerous historic monuments. The bustling Dong Ba Market was a treat for sure!!! I was so impressed by this city that really had such a buzz about it, it really came to life at night too, watching the locals eating and drinking and just enjoying life!

From Hue we drove along the roughly 140km scenic mountainous route, over the spectacular Hai Van Pass to Hoi An, and this is where Vietnam completely won me over. Along the way we were invited for an inspection and decadent lunch in Danang at the stunning Intercontinental Danang Resort. This resort was next level luxury, designed by architect Bill Bensley. His style is quirky and wild, which is why he has earned the nickname “the Willy Wonka of hotel design.” I absolutely loved what he has done and can only wish to stay at the Intercontinental one day.

In Hoi An I stayed at the absolutely beautiful Namia River Retreat for two nights, although I honestly could have stayed forever. The resort exceeded every expectation. From the stunning pool villas to the daily spa treatments included each day, it felt like pure luxury and relaxation the entire time. The buffet breakfast also didn’t disappoint - the selection was phenomenal. Although not located in the old town it was a quick taxi ride into town, or borrowing the bicycles from Namia made it nice and easy too.

Hoi An was easily my favourite destination of the trip. The old town was magical with its lantern lined streets, waterfront atmosphere, and beautiful architecture. Every corner felt special. The tailoring was also amazing and it was hard not to buy another suitcase to fill up with a new wardrobe!!! The quality and service of these ladies, who are like magicians is just incredible.

One of my favourite experiences was the Red Bridge Cooking School cooking class. The food was absolutely delicious and learning more about Vietnamese cuisine made me appreciate it even more. I did learn how to make a great rice paper roll!!!

I loved Hoi An so much that I extended my stay for another night and still did not want to leave. This time I stayed a bit closer to the old town at the Almanity Hoi An Resort and Spa. A little tired on its decor and definitely does not live up to their own 5star rating- perhaps a low 4 star. However, room was clean and comfortable for my 1 night. During that extra day I spent my time doing last minute shopping for my family and in the evening, with new friends at A Bang Beach which was just beautiful. Sitting by the waterfront enjoying fresh seafood, sipping on cocktails and soaking up the relaxed beach atmosphere was the perfect way to slow down and enjoy my last night in Hoi An.

My final stop was Ho Chi Minh City where I stayed at La Siesta Saigon Central a lovely new hotel close to the markets and perfect for shopping. The breakfast was my least favourite of all the places I stayed just based on variety but then again, I had really been spoilt over the last week. Their coconut coffee was thankfully delicious!

To finish the trip, I did a Vespa After Dark Food Tour through the streets of Ho Chi Minh City. I was honestly terrified at first, weaving through the traffic on the back of a Vespa - I’m not going to lie there were tears, but by the end of the night I absolutely loved it and felt like a pro on the back of the Vespa!!! It ended up being one of the most fun and memorable experiences of the whole trip especially ending at a local bar listening to live music was just perfect!

Vietnam surprised me in the best possible way. The people, the food, the scenery, and the energy of every destination made this one of the most special trips I have ever taken. Extremely grateful for Wide Eyed Tours for this special opportunity.  I already know I will be back, this time with my family who just can’t wait!!
